Four police officers were injured in an explosion in Serai Naurang town of Lakki Marwat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday, local authorities confirmed. The attack targeted a routine police patrol, raising concerns over security in the area.
District police spokesperson Qudratullah Khan told Dawn that the explosion occurred on the busy Bannu-DI Khan Road near a fruit and vegetable market. The blast caused injuries to officers and damaged their patrol van.
The injured personnel include Head Constable Waheedullah and Constables Syed Anwar, Hadiullah, and Ikramullah. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while their condition is reported as stable.
Initial reports suggest the attackers may have used an improvised explosive device (IED) placed on a motorcycle. Local residents reported damage to nearby shops and vehicles parked close to the explosion site.
The exact cause and nature of the blast are under investigation. Police have yet to confirm whether the attack was linked to any militant group, but security agencies are conducting further inquiries.
This incident comes roughly two weeks after a deadly attack on a police vehicle in Lakki Marwat’s Bettani subdivision, where seven policemen, including a senior officer, were martyred. The previous attack also involved an IED targeting a routine patrol squad.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Security forces in Lakki Marwat are on high alert to prevent further attacks, and investigations are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
