2 Million New Jobs

Pakistan Sets Target of 2 Million New Jobs in Fiscal Year 2026-27

Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has set an ambitious target of creating 2 million new jobs during the fiscal year 2026-27 as part of its broader strategy to strengthen economic growth and improve employment opportunities across the country.

According to official documents, the government claims that around 1.8 million employment opportunities were generated during the current fiscal year ending on June 30. Officials view this progress as a positive indicator of economic recovery and labor market expansion.

The services sector is expected to play the leading role in job creation during the upcoming fiscal year. Government estimates suggest that approximately 1.1 million new positions will be generated in services, making it the largest contributor to employment growth.

The industrial sector is projected to create around 500,000 jobs. Increased production activity, investment inflows, and ongoing industrial development initiatives are expected to support workforce expansion and generate additional employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, the agriculture sector is forecast to contribute nearly 400,000 new jobs. Experts believe that improvements in agricultural productivity, modernization efforts, and rural development programs could help achieve this target.

The official document states that the growing trend in employment generation will support broad-based, inclusive, and job-led economic growth. Expanding workforce participation is also expected to enhance household incomes and strengthen overall economic performance.

Federal and provincial employment programs are continuing to focus on labor market participation, entrepreneurship, technical skills development, and improved recruitment systems. These initiatives aim to better connect job seekers with employment opportunities while building a more competitive and skilled workforce for the future.
