Aleema Khan, sister of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, has said that the only acceptable political deal would be the restoration of an independent judiciary and the conduct of free and fair elections. Speaking outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Aleema Khan reiterated that democratic reforms remain the central demand of her brother and his supporters.
Addressing journalists, Aleema Khan said that meeting Imran Khan was a constitutional right of his family. She expressed disappointment after being denied access once again and pledged to continue visiting the prison. According to her, maintaining public attention on the issue is important to ensure accountability and transparency.
The PTI leader’s sister also emphasized the need for an independent judiciary and a free media environment. She argued that democratic institutions must function without interference and stated that political stability can only be achieved through transparent governance and respect for constitutional principles.
Responding to reports about an alleged meeting between Imran Khan and a former military chief, Aleema Khan rejected the claims. She described such reports as politically motivated speculation that often emerges during periods of heightened political activity. She maintained that no such meeting had taken place.
Aleema Khan also referred to reports of discussions between PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. She said assurances regarding access to the PTI founder had been conveyed but were not implemented. She stressed that priority should be given to proper medical care and treatment for Imran Khan.
Commenting on the broader political situation, Aleema Khan criticized what she described as restrictions around Adiala Jail and raised concerns about political developments in Gilgit-Baltistan. She alleged that electoral irregularities, political pressure, and restrictions on political activity were undermining democratic norms.
Meanwhile, Sohail Afridi stated that his primary concern was ensuring medical treatment for Imran Khan. He dismissed speculation about political divisions within the party and urged public attention toward the upcoming federal budget and the former prime minister’s health. Aleema Khan concluded that an independent judiciary and credible elections remain essential for Pakistan’s democratic future.
