Iran Announces Three-Day State Funeral for Ali Khamenei

Iran has announced plans to hold a three-day state funeral for Ali Khamenei funeral ceremonies following the death of the country’s longtime supreme leader. Officials said the event, which was previously postponed because of the ongoing conflict in the region, will be held on a date yet to be announced.

Ali Khamenei, who led Iran for nearly 37 years, was killed on February 28 during the opening day of the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. His death marked one of the most significant developments in the country’s modern political history.

A state funeral had originally been scheduled for March 4, but authorities delayed the ceremony as military tensions and security concerns intensified. Iranian officials said the postponement was necessary due to the circumstances created by the conflict.

According to Tehran municipal officials, the Ali Khamenei funeral is expected to span three days and include large-scale public gatherings. Authorities are preparing extensive arrangements to accommodate mourners from across the country.

Officials indicated that funeral events will take place in Tehran as well as the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad. Mashhad has been identified as the location where Khamenei will be laid to rest following the completion of the state ceremonies.

Authorities suggested that the funeral could take place during the early days of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, which is expected to begin in mid-June. However, a final schedule has not yet been officially confirmed.

Iranian officials estimate that millions of people could participate in the Ali Khamenei funeral events. The government is expected to implement extensive security and logistical measures to manage the large crowds anticipated during the ceremonies.
