Two police officers were killed and two others injured in a Tank IED attack after a suspected remote-controlled improvised explosive device targeted a police armoured personnel carrier in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district on Monday. The explosion occurred during a routine patrol on the Wana-Jandola Road, prompting authorities to launch an immediate security response.
According to District Police Officer Abdul Samad, the blast took place at around 1:00pm near Masha Jan Bungalow in Grah Hayat village, within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Mureed Akbar Police Station. Police said the armoured vehicle was carrying personnel on routine patrol duties when it was struck by the explosion.
The officers who lost their lives were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Fareedullah and Constable Akhtar Zaman. Two other policemen, Constables Abdul Malik and Qudratullah, sustained injuries in the blast and were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Tank for medical treatment along with the bodies of the deceased.
Initial investigations indicate that the explosion was caused by a remotely detonated improvised explosive device. Police officials said forensic and security teams have begun collecting evidence to determine the exact nature of the attack and identify those responsible.
Following the incident, security was tightened across Tank district, with police placing the area on high alert and launching a search operation. Additional personnel were deployed at key locations as authorities intensified efforts to trace the attackers and prevent further incidents.
The latest Tank IED attack comes amid a continued rise in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security forces have stepped up counterterrorism operations in both provinces in response to increasing attacks targeting law enforcement personnel, civilians, and public infrastructure.
Recent weeks have witnessed several security-related incidents in the province, including attempted sabotage in Bannu and previous IED attacks that claimed multiple lives. Officials say security operations will continue as authorities work to improve stability and counter militant threats across the region.
