PM Shehbaz Doha visit

Shehbaz and Nawaz Honor Late Former Qatari Emir

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif undertook a PM Shehbaz Doha visit on Monday to personally convey Pakistan’s condolences following the death of former Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The prime minister was accompanied by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior officials during the day-long trip.

Upon arriving in Doha, the Pakistani delegation met Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz paid tribute to the late Sheikh Hamad’s visionary leadership, describing his contributions as instrumental in transforming Qatar into a leading regional and global player.

The prime minister also recalled the former emir’s longstanding friendship with Pakistan and his affection for the Pakistani people. He praised Sheikh Hamad’s role in strengthening bilateral ties and acknowledged his repeated visits to Pakistan over the years, which helped deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Qatar during its period of mourning, Shehbaz prayed for the departed leader and expressed sympathy to the Qatari royal family and citizens. He said Pakistan stood with its brotherly nation in this difficult time and hoped the people of Qatar would find strength and comfort.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz, Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistani delegation for travelling to Doha to offer condolences in person. He described the visit as a reflection of the deep-rooted fraternal relationship between Pakistan and Qatar and appreciated the gesture shown by the Pakistani leadership.

Before departing for Doha, the Government of Pakistan had announced a national day of mourning on July 13. National flags were flown at half-mast across the country as a mark of respect for the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, whose death was announced by Qatar’s Amiri Diwan on Sunday.

The PM Shehbaz Doha visit underscored the close diplomatic and historical ties between Pakistan and Qatar. Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, is widely credited with transforming the Gulf state into a global energy, media and diplomatic power before handing leadership to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
