A young man has been arrested after allegedly opening aerial fire near the vehicle of Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar in Lahore’s Defence area. Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody along with the weapon believed to have been used during the incident.
According to police officials, the incident occurred late at night within the limits of Defence-A. The suspect reportedly overtook the minister’s vehicle before firing several shots into the air. Authorities later seized the suspect’s vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement agencies launched an immediate operation to trace the individual. With assistance from Safe City surveillance cameras and modern tracking technology, police identified and arrested the suspect within a short period.

Speaking about the incident, Attaullah Tarar said he was traveling with his family when another vehicle passed from the left side. He stated that the driver fired approximately five shots into the air before leaving the scene.
The minister added that he followed the vehicle for some distance and informed police at a nearby checkpoint, enabling authorities to respond quickly. He clarified that the firing did not appear to be a direct attack targeting him personally.
Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the aerial firing and said further investigations are underway. Officials are examining all available evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
