Turkiye or Pakistan could host Iran-US discussions, official says

Pakistan has delivered a US proposal to Iran, with Pakistan or Turkiye possible venues for talks. The plan seeks to de-escalate the Gulf war, affecting regional stability and global energy markets. The proposal’s details remain undisclosed as Tehran publicly denies engaging in negotiations with the US.

The Iranian official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that Turkiye has also helped relay messages between Washington and Tehran.

Oil prices fell and battered global shares recovered as investors anticipated a possible end to nearly four weeks of conflict. Israel’s security cabinet has reviewed the plan, which reportedly includes curbing Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon is deploying thousands of additional troops to the Gulf to expand President Trump’s ground assault options.

Two Marine Expeditionary Units are already en route, with the first ship expected by month-end. The US aims to pressure Iran into accepting terms without escalating further conflict.

Iran continues to publicly reject US talks, with military and diplomatic spokespeople warning against trusting Washington. Iranian strikes on Israel, US bases, and Gulf allies continue, while Israel and Kuwait report retaliatory measures. Markets and governments remain cautious amid ongoing missile, drone, and air attacks in the region.

Since the start of “Operation Epic Fury,” Iran has effectively restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, impacting global oil supply.

The UN and International Maritime Organization have been informed, but Iran allows only friendly vessels safe passage. Diplomatic efforts through Pakistan and Turkiye may provide the first meaningful opportunity for negotiation.
