Governance Reform and Anti-Corruption Top Govt Agenda, Says Finance Minister

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has stated that improving governance and eliminating corruption is Pakistan’s own agenda, not merely a requirement of external institutions.

He emphasized that tackling corruption and strengthening governance remains a core priority of the state.

The minister noted that the International Monetary Fund has raised concerns regarding Pakistan’s governance structure and corruption issues.

He added that the IMF has also requested financial details of certain politicians and senior officials to ensure transparency.

Responding to a question, he said that an action plan has been launched to address corruption and poor governance, along with the formation of multiple reform committees.

Speaking in Washington, he clarified that he has no official information regarding reported cuts in federal hospital funding.

On energy issues, he said that the Ministry of Energy will review the use of civil nuclear technology to help address the country’s energy crisis.
