Breakdown of Petrol and Diesel Taxes in Pakistan Revealed

A detailed breakdown of taxes and charges included in petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan has been revealed, showing that a significant portion of fuel costs is made up of taxes.

According to documents issued by the Ministry of Energy Pakistan, around 46% of the petrol price consists of taxes and margins, with consumers paying approximately Rs. 211.26 per liter in taxes.

The ex-refinery price of petrol stands at Rs. 247.15 per liter, while additional costs include Rs. 24.12 in customs duty and Rs. 7.52 as inland freight margin.

The breakdown further shows that oil marketing companies earn Rs. 7.87 per liter, while petrol pump dealers receive a commission of Rs. 8.64 per liter.

Additionally, a petroleum levy of Rs. 160.61 and a climate support levy of Rs. 2.50 per liter are imposed, significantly increasing the final price.

For diesel, consumers pay Rs. 59.12 per liter in taxes and margins, with an ex-refinery price of Rs. 461.23 per liter.

Diesel pricing includes Rs. 35.74 in customs duty, Rs. 4.37 inland freight margin, Rs. 7.87 company margin, Rs. 8.64 dealer commission, and Rs. 2.50 climate support levy, while no petroleum levy is currently applied on diesel.
