The Pakistan Super League (PSL) technical committee has rejected Lahore Qalandars batter Fakhar Zaman’s appeal, upholding his two-match suspension. The decision follows an incident in which Zaman was accused of altering the condition of the ball.
The sanction was initially imposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama during a fixture between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. The incident was categorized as a Level 3 offence under the PSL code of conduct, prompting proceedings against Zaman.
Fakhar Zaman challenged the referee’s ruling by approaching the PSL technical committee, seeking to overturn the suspension. However, the committee reviewed the case and decided to maintain the original decision.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the three-member technical committee heard submissions from both Zaman’s side and the match officials before issuing its verdict.
The committee panel comprised Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mamrez Naqshbandi, and Syed Ali Naqi. After careful consideration of the evidence, the panel concluded that the suspension was justified.
The two-match ban means Fakhar Zaman will miss his upcoming PSL fixtures, impacting Lahore Qalandars’ lineup for the immediate matches. The ruling serves as a strict reminder about adherence to fair play and the code of conduct in the league.
PSL officials emphasized that all players are expected to uphold the integrity of the game, and any breaches, especially ball-tampering, will be dealt with firmly to maintain the league’s standards.
