Actor Hamza Ali Abbasi has stated that he has no involvement in the money laundering case against his sister, Dr Fazeela Abbasi. On Saturday, he shared a post on Instagram, emphasizing that he is “not part of this case in any capacity” and is not under investigation by any agency.
While expressing full support for his sister, Hamza clarified that her professional and legal matters are entirely separate from him. He described Dr Fazeela as a “highly accomplished professional” and said he will continue to support her with love and confidence during this challenging time. He also expressed trust in her integrity and in Pakistan’s institutions to ensure justice is served. Hamza requested that he not be expected to comment further on the case.
He also warned that any attempts to link him to the case would lead to legal action from his team. Whether Dr Fazeela chooses to respond publicly is entirely her decision. This clarification comes after media reports indirectly connected him to one of the accounts under investigation.
Meanwhile, Dr Fazeela’s request for pre-arrest bail on medical grounds was rejected by a special judge in Islamabad on Thursday. The judge cited her non-appearance and alleged misuse of legal relief.
Dr Fazeela faces multiple allegations, including:
- Unauthorized foreign currency dealings
- Unlicensed money-service operations
- Illicit cross-border remittances
- Use of informal channels such as Hawala/Hundi
The case is registered under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act 1947, the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010, and the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947, read with Section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
