Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has clarified that Iran has never refused to attend negotiations in Islamabad. He emphasized that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire are highly valued by Tehran.
This statement came after reports by the Washington Post suggesting that Iran had formally declined to meet US officials in Islamabad. According to the media report, Iran allegedly indicated that it would not engage in talks due to unacceptable demands by the United States.
Araqchi addressed the claims on social media, sharing videos highlighting the Iranian public’s strong affection for Pakistan. He reiterated that Iran remains willing to participate in talks hosted by Islamabad.
The Iranian minister also underscored that Pakistan’s efforts to mediate a ceasefire are appreciated. He criticized certain international media reports for misrepresenting the progress toward peace in the region.
According to reports, Turkey and Egypt are still facilitating efforts to resume dialogue, exploring alternative venues such as Doha in Qatar or Istanbul in Turkey. New proposals are also being considered to break the current impasse and ensure meaningful discussions.
Araqchi stressed that Iran’s conditions focus on achieving a comprehensive and lasting cessation of hostilities. He emphasized that any agreement must guarantee a durable peace rather than temporary arrangements.
While tensions in the region remain high, Tehran continues to express willingness to engage through Pakistan’s mediation. The Iranian minister’s clarification aims to correct misperceptions and reinforce the importance of constructive diplomacy in resolving conflicts.
