Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne has emphasized the importance of solid starts in both batting and bowling, stating that the team still has room for improvement in all departments.
The Australian star, who is featuring in the Pakistan Super League for the first time, shared his thoughts in a recent interview, describing the experience as both exciting and rewarding.
Labuschagne noted that Hyderabad Kingsmen is a newly formed team, and building understanding among players is an ongoing process. He said getting familiar with teammates and their playing styles has been an enjoyable journey so far.
He added that the season promises to be an exciting one for the team.
Reflecting on the first two matches, Labuschagne admitted that results did not go as planned. However, he highlighted several positive aspects that the team can build upon.
He expressed confidence that performances will improve as the tournament progresses, stressing that developing trust and team coordination is crucial.
The captain pointed out that Hyderabad Kingsmen must focus on gaining early control in matches to put pressure on opponents. According to him, strong starts can significantly improve their chances.
Addressing concerns about bowling, Labuschagne clarified that the issue is not limited to one area, as improvements are needed across all aspects of the game.
Labuschagne showed confidence in young Pakistani openers Saim Ayub and Muaz Sadaqat, stating that they need support and confidence to deliver strong performances.
He added that in T20 cricket, it is normal for players to have a few low scores before bouncing back with impactful innings.
The Australian batter admitted he is not satisfied with his own performances so far, having scored 26 and 23 runs in the opening matches.
He said his goal is to convert good starts into big innings to help his team secure stronger positions in matches.
Commenting on the lack of large crowds, Labuschagne said it slightly reduces the match atmosphere. However, he acknowledged that it makes on-field communication and strategy execution easier for players.
Labuschagne confirmed that Glenn Maxwell will soon join the squad in Karachi, adding that his inclusion will strengthen the team significantly.
Having previously toured Pakistan, Labuschagne said his current experience feels familiar and positive. He praised the security arrangements and overall environment.
He also shared his love for Pakistani cuisine, especially chicken karahi, paratha, and naan.
Labuschagne described Babar Azam as a world-class player and said interacting with him and learning from his experience has been highly valuable.
