Mohsin Naqvi holds security talks with Chinese envoy

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad on Friday to discuss counter-terrorism and security cooperation. The talks also focused on the Police Exchange Programme and regional security developments, according to the Interior Ministry.

Naqvi was formally received at the embassy in Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave, with the ministry sharing a video of the meeting on social media. Discussions included measures to safeguard Chinese investors and plans for a business security conference in Pakistan.

The conference will take place in two stages: the first phase will engage Chinese businesses currently operating in Pakistan, while the second will involve prospective investors. The initiative aims to address security concerns and boost investor confidence.

Naqvi also announced the creation of a Special Protection Unit to ensure the safety of foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens in Islamabad. Personnel in the unit will receive specialized training, including instruction in the Chinese language, to enhance coordination.

This meeting follows recent diplomatic engagements, including Ambassador Jiang’s visit to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where discussions covered regional stability and Pakistan’s role in promoting de-escalation. Chinese officials have also met with provincial authorities to review law and order measures for Chinese nationals in Punjab.
