The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for Sindh and southern Punjab starting April 11. Residents are advised to take precautions. High daytime temperatures and elevated nighttime heat could pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups.
Districts in Sindh at risk include Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana, Jamshoro, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar, Umerkot, and Kashmore. Southern districts like Jhal Magsi, Usta Muhammad, and Dera Murad Jamali are also included.
Nighttime temperatures are expected 3 to 5 degrees above normal, while daytime highs may rise 5 to 7 degrees. These extreme conditions could affect daily life and increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
In southern Punjab, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan are likely to experience higher-than-normal temperatures. Authorities emphasized the need to protect the elderly, children, and outdoor laborers.
NDMA advised residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak daytime hours. Staying hydrated and wearing light clothing are recommended to reduce the impact of heat stress.
The agency confirmed that it is actively monitoring weather developments and potential risks. Timely information is being shared with authorities and the public to ensure preparedness.
Citizens are encouraged to use the NDMA Disaster Alert App for updates on weather conditions, safety measures, and guidance to minimize heat-related risks.
