PM Shehbaz Urges Use of Eco-Friendly Vehicles for Savings

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need to promote eco-friendly vehicles in Pakistan to save foreign exchange and reduce fuel consumption. He praised Islamabad Traffic Police for introducing electric vehicles in their fleet.

Speaking at the ceremony for the delivery of electric vehicles to the Islamabad Capital Territory Traffic Police, PM Shahbaz highlighted the importance of modern vehicles in improving efficiency and saving energy.

The first batch of 15 electric vehicles has been handed over to the police. These vehicles run entirely on electricity, reducing dependence on expensive petroleum products. PM Shehbaz expressed hope that this initiative would be replicated across the country.

Officials explained that each vehicle will have a dedicated staff including a captain, responder, and driver, all in specially designed uniforms. These vehicles will operate on major roads to manage traffic flow efficiently.

The vehicles can travel 350 to 400 kilometers on a full charge. Fast charging takes 60 to 90 minutes, while regular charging requires 6 to 8 hours, making them suitable for urban traffic operations.

Compared to conventional petrol vehicles, each electric vehicle is expected to save approximately 0.55 million PKR per month. The investment in these vehicles will be recovered within 13 to 14 months, making them a cost-effective solution for the police fleet.

PM Shahbaz stated that the addition of electric vehicles is part of the federal government’s modern traffic management plan for Islamabad. An additional 15 electric vehicles will soon be added to the traffic police fleet to further enhance urban mobility and energy efficiency.
