Punjab has extended the four-day week schedule to colleges and universities following the earlier implementation in schools, authorities confirmed. The Higher Education Department issued a notification making the change applicable to all public and private institutions across the province.
According to the notification, colleges and universities will operate four days a week, giving students and staff three weekly holidays. This aligns with the new schedule for schools introduced earlier by the School Education Department.
The School Education Department had previously announced that all schools in Punjab, public and private, would close on Fridays. Classes will now be held four days a week, aiming to streamline academic operations.
In schools, the working hours are from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm. Double-shift schools have adjusted timings, with the morning shift ending at 12:30 pm and the second shift running from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
The Higher Education Department emphasized that the revised schedule for colleges and universities aims to improve teaching quality, enhance learning outcomes, and make the academic system more effective.
Officials stated that the four-day week will not compromise educational standards but is expected to provide better rest and focus for students and staff, supporting overall academic performance.
Authorities also highlighted that this change is part of broader reforms in the province’s education system to optimize schedules, increase efficiency, and balance academic and personal development for students across all levels.
