Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly urged the United States to launch a major military strike against Iran.
According to Emanuel, these requests were made to multiple US presidents over the years, including Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. However, each administration ultimately rejected the proposal.
Emanuel explained that US leaders carefully evaluated the risks of a potential war with Iran and concluded that such military action would not serve American national interests. The decisions reflected concerns over regional instability and long-term consequences.
He emphasized that under the US constitutional system, the president serves as commander-in-chief and bears full responsibility for decisions involving military engagement and the lives of American soldiers.
Emanuel further noted that assigning blame to others for such decisions is misleading, as the authority rests solely with the president. He stressed that choices related to war carry profound human costs, making caution and accountability essential in every case.
