Sindh Energy Saving Policy: Markets to Close Early at Night

The Sindh energy saving policy has been officially implemented, bringing significant changes to business hours across the province. The government announced new timings for markets, shopping malls, hotels, and wedding halls as part of efforts to reduce energy consumption.

According to the official notification, shops, markets, and shopping malls in most districts will now close at 8 PM. However, in divisional headquarters such as Karachi, businesses will be allowed to remain open until 9 PM under the Sindh energy saving policy.

The new policy also outlines updated timings for the hospitality sector. Hotels and food outlets can operate from 7 PM until 11:30 PM, ensuring that evening dining options remain available while still contributing to energy conservation.

Importantly, the Sindh energy saving policy does not restrict home delivery or takeaway services. This decision aims to balance economic activity with energy-saving goals, allowing businesses to continue serving customers beyond physical closing hours.

Wedding halls and banquet venues have also been given revised timings. Events will now be permitted between 8 PM and midnight, providing a structured schedule that aligns with the government’s conservation efforts.

Several essential services have been exempted from the policy. These include tandoors, milk shops, bakeries, medical stores, laboratories, clinics, hospitals, and petrol pumps, ensuring that basic public needs are not affected.

Authorities have directed commissioners and deputy commissioners to strictly enforce the Sindh energy saving policy with the support of law enforcement agencies. Similar measures have already been introduced in other provinces, highlighting a nationwide push toward energy efficiency.
