Iraq Sovereignty Operation

Iraq launches sovereignty security operation

Iraq has launched a large-scale military campaign named “Iraq Sovereignty Operation” in its western desert regions following reports of possible foreign military activity and heightened security concerns in the area.

According to Iraq’s Joint Operations Command, the operation is being conducted by the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) across desert zones in Najaf and Karbala. Officials stated that the mission aims to secure key desert routes and strengthen national territorial control.

The Iraq Sovereignty Operation includes a coordinated security sweep covering nearly 120 kilometers, involving explosives disposal teams, intelligence units, and supporting forces. The operation is also focused on securing the road linking Karbala with the Nukhayb region.

Authorities confirmed that the operation is being carried out under the direction of Iraq’s leadership and supervised by senior military command. Forces are reportedly conducting deep search operations extending up to 70 kilometers in targeted areas.

The move comes after media reports suggested possible foreign military presence in Iraq’s western desert. These claims gained attention following earlier clashes in the region and a report alleging the existence of a covert outpost. However, Iraq has strongly denied such claims.

In an official statement, the Joint Operations Command dismissed the reports as exaggerated, stressing that there are no unauthorized foreign forces or bases operating inside Iraqi territory. The government warned that legal action may be taken against the spread of misinformation.

The Iraq Sovereignty Operation highlights Baghdad’s focus on reinforcing internal security and asserting control over sensitive border and desert regions, especially amid rising regional tensions and ongoing geopolitical speculation.
