Power Division Issues Warning Over QR Code Electricity Bill Fraud

Islamabad: The Pakistan Power Division has issued an advisory warning consumers about the risk of personal data theft through fraudulent QR codes on electricity bills.

According to a spokesperson, some individuals are misleading users by directing them to fake links where they are asked to share personal information in multiple steps. After entering details, users are also prompted to submit a six-digit verification code, which can be misused for illegal access.

The Power Division clarified that no personal or sensitive information should be entered on any platform other than official billing systems. It stressed that such methods are fraudulent and unlawful.

Officials warned that criminal elements are using these tactics under the guise of subsidies or digital services to trick citizens into sharing confidential information.

The spokesperson further stated that law enforcement agencies have been informed about such activities and action is being taken against those involved.

The Power Division urged electricity consumers to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal data on suspicious links, QR codes, or unofficial platforms.
