Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has announced that Pakistan will host the Pakistan 2027 SCO Summit, marking a significant step in the country’s role within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). He invited all member states to participate as Pakistan prepares to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Heads of State Council in September.
Leading Pakistan’s delegation at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Dar reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the SCO Charter and the “Shanghai Spirit.” He said the principles of mutual trust, respect, shared development, and prosperity remain essential for strengthening regional cooperation.
Dar stated that Pakistan is ready to take over the SCO Heads of State Council chairmanship and is committed to making the organisation a stronger platform for regional peace, economic growth, and strategic collaboration. He emphasized that cooperation should remain the foundation of the SCO’s future agenda.
During his address, the foreign minister urged member states to avoid confrontation and the use of aggression as a policy tool. He called for greater investment in regional connectivity, poverty reduction, and economic cooperation, saying these priorities are key to long-term stability across the SCO region.
Dar also highlighted the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as a project that supports the SCO’s broader vision of regional connectivity and economic integration. He added that Pakistan continues to promote initiatives that strengthen trade and infrastructure links.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Dar attended an official dinner hosted by Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. He also held separate bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to discuss regional developments and bilateral cooperation.
The Pakistan 2027 SCO Summit is expected to strengthen Islamabad’s diplomatic profile and provide an opportunity to promote regional peace, connectivity, and economic partnership among SCO member states. Officials say Pakistan remains committed to advancing the organisation’s shared goals.
