The Nawaz Sharif Gilgit-Baltistan Visit has been officially approved after the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the former prime minister to travel to the region on June 2. The visit comes just days before the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections scheduled for June 7.
According to an official notification issued by the Election Commission Secretariat, permission was granted to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif to participate in election-related activities in Gilgit-Baltistan. The approval was issued after consideration by the Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The notification stated that the Nawaz Sharif Gilgit-Baltistan Visit must comply fully with the Elections Act 2017, election rules, and the Code of Conduct for General Elections 2026. Authorities warned that any violation could result in legal action against candidates or individuals found responsible.
Senior Punjab Minister and PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed that Nawaz Sharif will undertake a one-day visit to the region. During the trip, he is expected to meet party leaders, candidates, and ticket holders while reviewing the evolving political situation ahead of the polls.
According to Marriyum Aurangzeb, consultations will focus on election preparations as well as development-related issues concerning Gilgit-Baltistan. The visit is seen as part of the party’s final efforts to mobilize support before campaigning concludes later this week.
The political atmosphere in Gilgit-Baltistan has become increasingly tense following allegations by leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Senior PTI figures, including Asad Qaiser and Junaid Akbar, have claimed that their campaign activities faced restrictions in the region.
The Nawaz Sharif Gilgit-Baltistan Visit comes amid heightened political competition as parties make their final push before voters head to the polls. With election day approaching, attention remains focused on campaign activities, political disputes, and preparations for a smooth electoral process.
