Gilgit Baltistan Election Results: PPP Emerges as Leading Party in Preliminary Count

The preliminary and unofficial Gilgit Baltistan election results indicate a strong performance by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which has secured the highest number of seats so far. Polling for the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly elections concluded peacefully on Sunday, with voters turning out in large numbers across the region.

Voting continued from morning until 5:00 PM without interruption. Long queues were observed at several polling stations as citizens exercised their democratic right. Following the completion of voting, unofficial results from various constituencies began emerging throughout the evening.

According to the latest unofficial count from 18 completed constituencies out of 24, PPP has won nine seats, making it the leading political party in the election. Independent candidates have secured five seats, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won three seats. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has claimed one constituency.

PPP recorded victories in constituencies GBA-1, GBA-4, GBA-5, GBA-7, GBA-9, GBA-10, GBA-11, GBA-12, and GBA-19. PML-N candidates emerged successful in GBA-18, GBA-20, and GBA-22, while MWM secured GBA-8. Independent candidates won GBA-3, GBA-6, GBA-21, GBA-23, and GBA-24.

Among the notable results, PPP’s Amjad Hussain won GBA-1 Gilgit-I with 10,594 votes. In GBA-8 Skardu-II, MWM candidate Muhammad Kazim secured victory after a closely contested race. Independent candidate Niek Naam Karim won in Hunza, while independent contenders also performed strongly in several Ghizer and Ghanche constituencies.

Several constituencies remain under count, including GBA-2, GBA-13, GBA-14, GBA-15, GBA-16, and GBA-17, where unofficial trends continue to emerge. Early leads suggest competitive contests among PPP, PML-N, independent candidates, and other political parties.

With counting still underway in the remaining constituencies, the final composition of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly is yet to be confirmed. However, based on the current unofficial results, PPP appears well-positioned to play a central role in the formation of the next regional government.
