The recent Armenia election has drawn international attention after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the outcome as a major test for the European Union’s commitment to supporting democratic partners in the region.
Zelenskyy congratulated Armenia on holding what he called democratic and free elections and extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following the victory of his Civil Contract party in the parliamentary vote.
In a statement shared on social media, Zelenskyy said the election result represented a victory for Armenia’s sovereignty, independence and right to determine its own future. He also expressed support for expanding cooperation between Ukraine and Armenia.
The Armenia election resulted in a strong showing for Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party, which secured 49.81 percent of the vote according to preliminary results. The outcome strengthens the prime minister’s political position as Armenia continues to navigate regional and geopolitical challenges.
Zelenskyy urged the European Union to move quickly in deepening engagement with Armenia. He argued that European institutions should ensure that Armenians experience tangible benefits from closer ties with Europe through economic, political and social cooperation.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the current moment presents an opportunity for the EU to demonstrate that its partnership commitments translate into meaningful support. He warned that delays could weaken confidence in the European project among Armenian citizens.
The Armenia election is expected to influence both domestic policy and Armenia’s international relationships. Observers will now be watching how the European Union responds to Pashinyan’s renewed mandate and whether deeper cooperation between Brussels and Yerevan follows.
