Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi could miss the upcoming Test tours of the West Indies and England, with selectors reportedly considering significant changes to the national team’s pace attack. The development has sparked discussion over the future of Shaheen Afridi Test selection plans.
The uncertainty emerged after the announcement of a 22-player red-ball training camp, from which Afridi was notably absent. According to reports, selectors have informed the left-arm pacer that limited participation in first-class cricket could affect his chances of being considered for the upcoming Test assignments.
The decision has raised questions because Afridi was selected for Pakistan’s recent Test series against Bangladesh despite the same concerns regarding domestic red-ball participation. His exclusion from the camp has therefore attracted attention among cricket observers and fans.
Despite the doubts surrounding Shaheen Afridi Test selection, his record in the longer format remains impressive. He has taken 126 wickets in 34 Test matches and claimed 60 wickets in his last 16 appearances, establishing himself as one of Pakistan’s leading fast bowlers.
Afridi also enjoyed notable success during Pakistan’s previous Test tour of the West Indies in 2021. He collected 18 wickets in two matches, including match-winning performances that highlighted his effectiveness in Caribbean conditions.
Sources suggest selectors are keen to reward strong performances in domestic and franchise cricket. Fast bowlers Mohammad Ali and Ubaid Shah are reportedly under consideration, while Mohammad Abbas, Aamir Jamal and Khurram Shehzad also remain in contention for selection.
Pakistan’s red-ball camp will continue until July 10, with the West Indies Test series scheduled to begin on July 25. The debate over Shaheen Afridi Test selection is likely to continue until the final squad for the overseas tours is officially announced.
