MENLO PARK: Meta has introduced a new feature for WhatsApp Web and the Windows desktop app, allowing users to view PDF documents without downloading them first.
The company announced that it has integrated Adobe Acrobat support into WhatsApp’s desktop platforms, making it easier for users to open and interact with PDF files directly within their chats.
Previously, users receiving a PDF document on WhatsApp Web or the Windows application had to download the file before it could be opened. With the latest update, documents can now be viewed instantly without leaving the chat window or saving them to the device.
In addition to viewing PDFs, users will also be able to use basic editing tools such as highlighting text and adding annotations to supported documents. Meta said these capabilities have been made possible through a partnership with Adobe.
According to the company, the feature has started rolling out globally for WhatsApp Web and Windows desktop users.
Meta noted that WhatsApp has more than three billion users worldwide, with millions regularly exchanging documents for work, education and personal communication. The new feature is expected to simplify document sharing while improving productivity for desktop users.
The company added that PDF files viewed within chats will continue to benefit from WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, ensuring user privacy and security.
Meta also announced several additional updates for WhatsApp. iPad users will now be able to create a new WhatsApp account directly on their devices, while the messaging app has received a redesigned interface for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Furthermore, WhatsApp users can now share songs directly from supported music services to their WhatsApp Status, expanding the platform’s content-sharing capabilities.
