Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed Pakistan’s economic performance during a Pakistan IMF meeting with senior International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials in Washington. According to the Ministry of Finance, the discussions focused on the country’s macroeconomic progress and reforms under the IMF-supported programmes.
The finance minister met IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz, Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke, Middle East and Central Asia Department Director Jihad Azour, and IMF Mission Chief for Pakistan Iva Petrova. The meetings assessed Pakistan’s progress under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), and the broader reform agenda.
During the Pakistan IMF meeting, Aurangzeb highlighted improvements in the country’s fiscal and external accounts. He pointed to the achievement of revenue targets, stronger foreign exchange reserves, record remittances and an improved current account position as key indicators of economic stability.
The discussions also covered several ongoing reforms, including tax administration, energy sector restructuring, privatisation, tariff rationalisation, debt management and efforts to diversify financing sources. Both sides also discussed Pakistan’s roadmap for returning to international capital markets.
According to the finance ministry, the two sides exchanged views on long-term economic priorities, including human capital development, women’s economic participation, demographic challenges, technology-driven growth and private sector-led export expansion. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to structural reforms and fiscal discipline.
Separately, Aurangzeb met US Export-Import Bank President and Chairman John Jovanovic to discuss expanding Pakistan-US economic cooperation. The talks focused on financing long-term development projects, increasing trade in cotton, soybeans and hydrocarbons, and establishing a strategic framework for future collaboration.
The Pakistan IMF meeting took place during Aurangzeb’s official visit to Washington, where he is also holding talks with US government officials and business leaders. The visit is aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, attracting investment and advancing Pakistan’s broader reform and growth agenda.
