The Assam floods have claimed at least 41 lives after 10 more deaths were reported during the past 24 hours, according to the State Disaster Management Authority. The flooding has affected large parts of India’s northeastern state, prompting authorities to continue rescue and relief operations.
Officials said the latest fatalities were recorded in five different districts of Assam. The State Disaster Management Authority confirmed that floodwaters continued to disrupt daily life, with thousands of residents facing displacement and damage to homes and infrastructure.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said more than 700,000 people have been affected by the disaster. He also confirmed that three people remain missing as search and rescue teams continue operations in the flood-hit areas.
The chief minister said cloudbursts and flooding had impacted several districts that had not previously experienced such severe weather events. He described the situation as unusual and stressed the need for an effective response to support affected communities.
According to the chief minister’s office, all government departments have been instructed to maintain a continuous presence in the field. Officials have also been directed to accelerate rescue, relief, restoration and rehabilitation efforts until every affected family receives assistance.
Emergency teams are working to restore normal life by providing relief supplies and assessing damage in the worst-hit districts. Authorities continue to monitor water levels and weather conditions as efforts remain focused on protecting vulnerable communities.
