Iran negotiations with US are not taking place at the moment, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, which rejected reports suggesting Tehran had requested talks with Washington after a recent pause in fighting.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks during a weekly press briefing in Tehran. He said Iran was not engaged in any negotiations with the United States and denied claims that officials had sought a new round of discussions.
Baqaei stated that reports about a request for talks were inaccurate. He emphasized that no diplomatic negotiations were currently being conducted between Tehran and Washington despite recent speculation.
The comments came after a halt in recent fighting involving the two countries. The pause in hostilities had prompted media reports that diplomatic contacts might be revived, but Iranian officials publicly dismissed that suggestion.
