Subsidized petrol scheme for small vehicles expected

The government is reportedly planning to provide a petrol subsidy for motorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles, with an official announcement expected shortly. Under the proposal, eligible users could receive 20 to 30 liters of subsidized petrol per month. Distribution is expected to be managed through a QR code system for convenience and transparency.

To implement the fuel conservation plan, the federal government has requested Rs154 billion from the provinces. The scheme aims to support small vehicle owners while encouraging efficient fuel use amid rising petroleum prices. Officials are finalizing the framework before rolling it out.

The finance ministry stated that a high-level advisory meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed current fuel supplies. Authorities confirmed that petroleum products are sufficient to meet demand until May 10, ensuring uninterrupted availability during the implementation of the subsidy.

A final decision on adjustments to petroleum prices will be made next week, following a meeting between the President, Prime Minister, and the four provincial chief ministers. Officials said the targeted subsidy forms part of broader measures to provide relief to low-income and small vehicle users.

The planned scheme will streamline fuel distribution through QR codes, regulate consumption, and provide financial relief for daily commuters. Authorities aim to implement the program efficiently without disrupting the country’s overall fuel supply.
