Iran World Cup 2026 participation has been officially confirmed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who stated that the national team will “for sure” take part in the tournament despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Infantino made the remarks during an economic conference, emphasizing that Iran World Cup 2026 participation is secured as the team has already qualified on sporting merit. He added that the players deserve to compete and represent their country on football’s biggest stage.
The confirmation comes at a time when regional conflict has raised concerns about Iran’s involvement in international events. However, FIFA leadership has maintained that football should remain separate from political disputes.
According to tournament arrangements, Iran will play its group stage matches in the United States, with fixtures scheduled in Los Angeles and Seattle. The team is also expected to base itself in Tucson, Arizona during the competition.
Earlier tensions had sparked discussions about relocating Iran’s matches, especially after Tehran reportedly requested a change of venue due to security concerns. However, FIFA rejected the proposal and maintained the original hosting plan.
Infantino reiterated that sports must remain “outside of politics,” stressing that global competitions like the World Cup should serve as platforms for unity rather than division among nations.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the first edition featuring 48 teams, is set to begin on June 11. With Iran World Cup 2026 participation now confirmed, attention is shifting toward preparations and group-stage matchups.
