The Punjab government has decided to establish the Punjab Film City Authority to promote the local film industry and strengthen media production in the province.
The Punjab Film City Authority Bill 2025 has been presented in the provincial assembly, aiming to support film-making, drama production, and documentary creation under a structured regulatory framework.
Under the proposed law, the authority will be funded by the Government of Punjab to manage its operational and developmental expenses.
The bill introduces a comprehensive system for licensing, regulations, and a new film policy to streamline the production process in the province.
Filmmakers will be provided with facilities including permits, approvals, and a one-window operation system to encourage ease of business in the entertainment sector.
According to the bill, special incentives will also be offered to attract both local and foreign investment in the film industry.
The initiative also aims to promote Punjab’s culture, tourism, and positive international image through films and media content.
The bill has been referred to a relevant committee for a two-month review, after which the committee will present its report.
Following approval from the committee, the bill will be tabled again for final passage in the Punjab Assembly.
