Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to offer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) another opportunity for dialogue. Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday, he said Bilawal Bhutto PTI talks proposal aimed to encourage political unity and help the country fight terrorism.
Bilawal supported the decision to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He said President Asif Ali Zardari had approved the measure in accordance with the Constitution. He also urged opposition parties to explain why they believed an emergency was unnecessary in the province.
The PPP chairman said the government had made efforts to engage the opposition before taking the decision. According to Bilawal, authorities initially chose negotiations when the issue reached the president. He added that dialogue had been given an opportunity before the government proceeded with the emergency measure.
Bilawal said he had been informed on the night of the negotiations that an agreement had been reached. He noted that two PPP representatives were part of the negotiating committee. However, he argued that PTI’s provincial government had contributed to the current political and legal situation, a claim reflecting his assessment of the dispute.
He stressed that the emergency had been imposed out of necessity and was not intended to remain in place permanently. Bilawal said political parties and state institutions needed to work together against terrorism because no individual or institution could tackle the threat alone.
The PPP chairman also discussed regional security concerns. He claimed that India remained dissatisfied with Pakistan’s military performance and referred to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements about Operation Sindoor. Bilawal further alleged that India was supporting terrorism in Pakistan through separatist groups. These remarks represented his position on the regional situation.
Bilawal called on the federal government to find a middle ground to resolve the political dispute. He said the government was willing to extend its hand to the opposition and invited PTI to return to negotiations. His proposal for Bilawal Bhutto PTI talks placed renewed dialogue at the centre of efforts to address political tensions and build cooperation against terrorism.
