The Strait of Hormuz multinational mission has been proposed by France and the United Kingdom as global concerns grow over rising tensions and disruptions in one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that both countries will soon host an international conference aimed at forming a “peaceful multinational mission” to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz multinational mission is expected to include countries willing to contribute to restoring freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway, which is vital for global energy supply chains.
Macron emphasized that the initiative would be strictly defensive in nature and focused solely on protecting maritime traffic rather than escalating military tensions in the region.
According to the proposal, the mission could be deployed as soon as circumstances allow, reflecting the urgency of maintaining stability after recent failed diplomatic negotiations in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz multinational mission comes amid ongoing uncertainty following Iran-US talks, which have struggled to produce a lasting agreement on regional security and transit rules.
France and the UK have reiterated that the goal is to ensure free navigation and reduce risks for commercial shipping passing through one of the world’s busiest energy corridors.
