Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed bilateral relations and regional developments during a phone call on Tuesday. The conversation also covered matters of mutual interest.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers reviewed the current state of Pakistan-Türkiye relations. They also exchanged views on regional issues and discussed areas where both countries can continue diplomatic coordination.
Ishaq Dar and Hakan Fidan also discussed the upcoming meeting of the Regional Four, or R4, foreign ministers. The group includes Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt and focuses on consultations over major regional challenges.
The four countries have increased diplomatic engagement through the R4 framework this year. Their discussions have focused on regional crises, security concerns and efforts to support stability through political and diplomatic coordination.

The upcoming Istanbul meeting is expected to receive additional attention following the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye on August 7. The agreement provides for collective defence and greater cooperation in military and defence-related areas.
Egypt did not sign the defence agreement, although its strategic importance has raised questions about its possible role in the evolving regional security framework. The Istanbul talks could provide an opportunity for the four countries to discuss this issue without necessarily expanding the defence pact.
For Pakistan, the latest call between Ishaq Dar and Hakan Fidan comes as Islamabad continues diplomatic engagement with Türkiye and Gulf countries. The upcoming R4 meeting is expected to address the changing Middle East situation, strengthen political coordination and explore further cooperation among the four states.
