Mike Hesson Says Pakistan Needs Stronger Middle-Order Batting in ODI Cricket

Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has emphasized the need for more effective batting during the middle overs in One Day International cricket as the team prepares for future global tournaments. Speaking during a PCB podcast, Hesson shared his vision for building a stronger ODI squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Hesson stated that Pakistan’s management is continuously working on improving the ODI squad with a long-term strategy in mind. He explained that the goal is to prepare the best possible team over the next 18 months to compete at the highest level in international cricket.

The head coach highlighted that the recent white-ball training camp provided an excellent opportunity to assess emerging talent. According to Hesson, several young cricketers displayed impressive potential, but they still require time, experience, and consistent hard work to develop into complete international players.

He stressed the importance of patience while grooming young players and said that providing opportunities alone is not enough. The coaching staff also needs to support players during their development phase so they can gain confidence and improve under pressure situations.

Discussing team performance, Hesson pointed out that Pakistan must improve its bowling consistency and focus on taking more wickets during the powerplay overs. He added that enhanced fitness standards across the squad would significantly contribute to better overall performances on the field.

The Pakistan coach also spoke about the upcoming series against Australia, calling it a valuable chance for young cricketers to prove their abilities against a strong international side. He acknowledged Australia as a tough opponent and encouraged fans to continue supporting the national team and emerging players.

Hesson praised Pakistan cricket supporters for their passion and commitment, saying fan support plays a crucial role in boosting the confidence and morale of players. As Pakistan continues preparations for future international events, the coaching staff remains focused on building a balanced and competitive ODI unit capable of delivering consistent performances on the world stage.
