Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said a system reset is necessary in Pakistan, stressing that the move does not aim to replace the government or any political party.
Addressing an event in Lahore, Naqvi said Pakistan had not achieved the desired results even after 79 years. He said the country needed to examine how its system works and identify the purpose of proposed reforms.
The minister said the idea of a system reset had been interpreted in different ways. Some linked it to the current government, while others connected it with the existing political setup.
Naqvi clarified that the proposed reset was not aimed at any particular government or political party. He said the focus should remain on removing weaknesses within the system and improving its performance.
He said Pakistan needed better public service delivery, adding that citizens should receive basic facilities such as education, healthcare, clean drinking water and sanitation. According to Naqvi, improving the system could help resolve public problems.
The interior minister said everyone needed to accept the need for a system reset, but any changes must remain within the Constitution and law. He also stressed that reforms should take place through political consensus.
Naqvi said decisions about creating new administrative units should not depend on the wishes of one political party or individual. He said public opinion should guide such decisions, and the constitutional right of citizens regarding new administrative units must be respected.
