No Majority for Creating New Provinces, Says Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said there is currently no majority in favour of creating new provinces in the country. He also stated that governor’s rule may be constitutional but is not democratic. He made these remarks while speaking to the media at the inauguration of a modern landfill site in Jam Chakro, Karachi.

Speaking about the waste management project, Murad Ali Shah said five modern landfill cells were being constructed at the Jam Chakro site. According to the chief minister, construction of all five cells is targeted for completion by December.

He said the project would help Karachi dispose of municipal waste in a scientific and organised manner. The modern waste management system is expected to improve waste disposal practices and help reduce environmental problems and unpleasant odours associated with unmanaged garbage.

The chief minister added that waste disposal points meeting international standards would also be established in other districts of Karachi. The initiative aims to improve the city’s waste management infrastructure and strengthen the arrangements for handling growing volumes of municipal waste.

Responding to a question about governor’s rule, Murad Ali Shah said that although the measure was constitutional, it was not democratic. He added that nobody wanted to remove the elected provincial government. The chief minister also described terrorism as the country’s biggest current challenge.

Commenting on the security situation, Murad Ali Shah questioned the circumstances in which terrorism remained a major concern while provinces could oppose certain operations. He also reiterated that there was currently no majority supporting the creation of new provinces.
