Pakistan inflation increased during the latest week as petrol and prices of several essential items rose. Official data showed that weekly inflation climbed 0.65 percent, while the annual inflation rate reached 8.35 percent.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics released its latest weekly inflation report, highlighting changes in the prices of commonly used household items. The figures showed that consumers faced higher costs for several food and fuel products during the week.
Onion prices recorded the sharpest increase, rising 26.30 percent in one week. Tomato prices went up 2.55 percent, while potato prices increased 0.96 percent. These increases contributed to the overall rise in Pakistan inflation.
Petrol prices also increased by 0.90 percent during the week, while diesel became 0.09 percent more expensive. According to the official data, higher fuel prices also pushed up the prices of flour, chicken and mash dal.
However, not every item became more expensive. The report showed that seven items recorded price declines, while prices of 27 items remained unchanged. Bananas became 2.54 percent cheaper, while moong dal prices fell 0.69 percent during the week.
Prices of sugar, eggs, gram dal and jaggery also declined during the period. Despite these reductions, increases in fuel and several food items pushed weekly Pakistan inflation higher, adding pressure on household budgets.
The latest figures indicate that food and fuel prices remain important factors affecting inflation in the country. With the annual inflation rate at 8.35 percent, changes in essential commodity prices will continue to influence consumers and the broader economy.
