Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the protection of Haramain Sharifain is an important responsibility of Pakistan’s people and armed forces.
Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister described the defence agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye in Makkah as an important development for regional peace, security and prosperity.
Shehbaz said the Makkah agreement represents an extension of existing defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye.
The prime minister stressed that the trilateral defence cooperation is aimed at promoting peace and stability rather than aggression or confrontation against any country. He said joint efforts could further strengthen security across the region.
Shehbaz said the protection of Haramain Sharifain remains a major responsibility for Pakistan’s people and armed forces. He added that Pakistan was fully aware of its responsibilities regarding the security of the holy sites.
The prime minister also spoke about Pakistan’s fight against terrorism, saying the sacrifices made by civilians and security forces would not be forgotten. He expressed confidence that terrorism would once again be eliminated from the country.
Discussing the Azad Kashmir elections, Shehbaz said voters had expressed confidence in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz during the first two phases. He said the party would work toward development and prosperity in the region.
The prime minister further said the government would continue prioritising the rule of law, public safety, peace and development. He expressed determination to move Pakistan toward greater security, economic progress and social development.
