Rescue authorities confirmed the deaths after completing emergency operations at the crash site on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The train was travelling from Karachi to Peshawar when the incident occurred.

According to the available details, all 15 coaches of the Rahman Baba Express derailed near Sher Shah Bridge. Initial reports suggested that the train was travelling at high speed, but officials said the exact cause of the accident had not yet been established.

A passenger said the accident occurred at around 5:15 am. The passenger also mentioned that nuts and bolts on coach number nine had reportedly been repaired near Rohri. However, this account has not established a connection between the reported repair work and the derailment.

Rescue teams recovered another body from one of the affected coaches, raising the confirmed death toll to six. More than 30 passengers were reported injured. The bodies and injured passengers were shifted to Nishtar Hospital, where emergency arrangements were put in place to treat the victims.

Rescue authorities said the main rescue operation had been completed. However, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl remained missing after the accident, and efforts to locate her were continuing. Railway officials also arranged alternative coaches to transport affected passengers to a railway station.

The Divisional Superintendent of Railways said it was too early to determine the cause of the derailment. An investigation committee was collecting evidence to establish what happened. Officials also said the down track was expected to be restored within three to four hours, although the statement did not confirm its eventual reopening.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the Rahman Baba Express train accident and directed officials to speed up relief efforts and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi also ordered the provision of medical facilities. He expressed sympathy with the victims’ families and said compensation would be provided to deceased and injured passengers under the railway insurance policy.
