Lahore load shedding has intensified across the city and several parts of Punjab as severe heat and humidity continue to affect residents. Unannounced power cuts have added to public difficulties.
Sources said residents in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region have reported frequent outages, particularly during the evening. Technical faults have also caused prolonged power disruptions in several areas.
A shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has reportedly reduced electricity generation. Sources also attributed the worsening situation to lower overall power production and LESCO’s ageing distribution system.
Several Lahore areas are facing repeated outages under load management measures. Some localities reportedly experience up to an hour without electricity after every hour, while high-loss feeders face outages lasting between two and six hours.
Frequent tripping at night has further disrupted residents’ sleep. In some areas, power returns only to be followed by transformer jumper failures and other technical faults, extending outages for several more hours.
Sources said demand remains around 3,500 to 3,700 megawatts during the day as many consumers use solar systems. However, demand reportedly rises to nearly 5,200 megawatts at night when solar systems stop generating power.
The gap between electricity supply and demand has increased pressure on nighttime load management. Lahore load shedding is also being reported in Sheikhupura, Faisalabad and Sialkot, while residents in Peshawar staged a protest and blocked University Road in Tehkal over prolonged power outages.
