PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Shaukat Yousafzai has said he is unaware of any mediation initiative involving Maulana Fazlur Rehman to facilitate political negotiations. However, he added that PTI would welcome the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief if he came forward to help bring the parties to the negotiating table.
Speaking to Geo News, Yousafzai said imposing an emergency or introducing governor’s rule would not resolve the country’s political challenges. He urged the federal government to implement the declaration issued by the All Parties Conference on terrorism and consult all relevant stakeholders before making further decisions.
The PTI spokesperson called on the federal government to set aside political stubbornness and ego and address disputes through dialogue. He stressed the importance of involving all stakeholders in efforts to reduce tensions and find a political way forward.
Yousafzai also commented on Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, arguing that raising one’s voice for legitimate rights should not be described as extremism. He further claimed that statements and threats issued by federal ministers had contributed to a more strained political atmosphere.
Addressing the possibility of mediation by Fazlur Rehman, Yousafzai reiterated that PTI had never refused negotiations. He acknowledged that tensions on both sides had risen and suggested that mediation could help ease disagreements and create opportunities for dialogue.
The PTI spokesperson also expressed hope that the federal government would avoid any undemocratic measures. He called for respect for the public mandate and restraint in the use of state power.
Referring to October 11, Yousafzai said the federal government’s misunderstanding would be cleared up on that date. The supplied report does not specify the exact development he was referring to. Further political developments will depend on the positions adopted by the parties involved and whether meaningful negotiations
