Sindh EV tax and registration relief

Sindh Cabinet Extends Electric Vehicle Tax and Registration Incentives Until 2028

The Sindh government has approved an extended package of tax and registration incentives for electric vehicles (EVs), aiming to encourage cleaner and more sustainable transportation across the province.

The decision was taken during a Sindh Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House in Karachi. The meeting reviewed measures designed to support environmentally friendly transport and reduce dependence on conventional fuels.

According to the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, the incentives available to non-commercial electric vehicles have been extended for another two years. The revised relief package will remain effective until May 29, 2028, providing EV owners with continued financial benefits in the province.

Under the approved package, the electric vehicle registration fee will remain at Rs1,000. The government has also retained the annual motor vehicle tax for non-commercial electric cars at Rs500, keeping ownership costs considerably lower for EV users.

For electric motorcycles, the cabinet approved a one-time lifetime motor vehicle tax of Rs500. The measure is intended to make electric two-wheelers more affordable and encourage their wider adoption, particularly for everyday transportation.

The package also includes a Rs5,000 luxury tax on electric vehicles equivalent to 2,000cc or higher engine capacity. In addition, owners registering an electric vehicle after the prescribed deadline will be subject to a Rs1,000 late-registration penalty.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said promoting electric vehicles could help reduce the province’s reliance on imported fuel while supporting environmentally sustainable transportation. The latest incentives will apply from May 30, 2026, through May 29, 2028, giving EV buyers and owners continued tax and registration relief in Sindh.
