State Minister for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is in good health and is receiving regular medical attention while in prison. He also rejected claims that concerns over Khan’s health could be linked to an attempt to seek an NRO.
Speaking during programme, Talal Chaudhry said Imran Khan’s health was satisfactory and that his medical condition was being monitored in jail. According to the minister, Khan undergoes medical checkups three times a day, suggesting that authorities are keeping a close watch on his health.
Talal Chaudhry further claimed that if doctors determined that Imran Khan needed to be shifted to a hospital, he could be taken there without requiring a court order. He said the government would act if hospitalization became medically necessary.
The minister also criticized those who gathered outside the hospital and said that they were responsible for contempt of court. His comments came amid continuing political tensions surrounding Imran Khan and his supporters, with health-related concerns becoming another point of political debate.
Responding to remarks attributed to Imran Khan’s sister, Chaudhry said that if she wanted an NRO on the pretext of her brother’s health, that would be her own wish. He maintained that the government was not prepared to respond to what he described as political demands presented through the issue of Khan’s health.
The state minister also accused the PTI camp of attempting to gain public sympathy by using what he called a “sympathy card.” He said the courts had changed and described the current judiciary as different from the past, adding that it was not there to provide what he termed a “judicial NRO.”
Talal Chaudhry concluded that the government would not be affected by what he described as the opposition’s wishes and demands.
