Security forces killed 12 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Kalat district, the military’s media wing ISPR said on Friday. The Kalat operation was carried out after security officials received information about the presence of suspected militants.
According to ISPR, security forces conducted the operation on Wednesday after receiving intelligence about terrorists allegedly linked to Fitna al Hindustan. The forces identified and monitored the suspected hideout before launching action against the militants.
ISPR said security personnel carried out a prompt operation and destroyed the hideout. All 12 terrorists identified by the military as Indian-sponsored militants were killed during the Kalat operation, according to the statement.
Security forces also recovered ammunition and improvised explosive devices from the site and destroyed them. Authorities later launched sanitisation operations in the surrounding area to search for any remaining militants and secure the location.
The Kalat operation comes as Balochistan has witnessed a recent increase in militant attacks. On August 31 and September 1, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants attacked the Customs House near Ziarat Cross in Pishin district along the N-50 National Highway.
Security forces responded to the attack and killed 10 militants, according to earlier reports. Six people, including two security officers, were killed during the exchange of fire. On August 31, security forces also killed 11 militants after they allegedly established an illegal checkpoint on the Quetta-Taftan highway.
The military said its counter-terrorism campaign under Azm-i-Istehkam would continue. ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies would maintain operations against foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism. The latest Kalat operation adds to ongoing efforts to prevent militant activity in Balochistan.
