22 Terrorists Killed in North Waziristan Operation

Pakistan’s security forces killed 22 terrorists during an ongoing North Waziristan operation, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday. The operation was launched in the Shewa area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after intelligence agencies received credible reports about the presence of militants in the region.

The ISPR stated that the operation began on May 17 and involved intense engagement between security personnel and suspected terrorists. During the exchange of fire, security forces reportedly eliminated 22 militants linked to the group described as “Fitna-al-Khwarij.” Officials said the militants were allegedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area.

According to the military’s media wing, weapons and ammunition were also recovered during the North Waziristan operation. Security officials believe the recovered material was being used to support terrorist attacks and militant movements in nearby areas. The military described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability.

The ISPR further said that local residents had been threatened and intimidated by the militants. According to the statement, the terrorists allegedly used civilians as human shields in an attempt to secure safe passage during the operation. The military strongly condemned such actions, calling them unacceptable and dangerous for innocent people.

Authorities confirmed that the area has been fully cordoned off while a sanitisation process continues. Security forces are conducting search activities to eliminate any remaining militants hiding in nearby locations. Officials indicated that the operation may continue until the region is declared completely secure.

The North Waziristan operation is part of Pakistan’s broader counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy. The initiative was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan and aims to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country. Security institutions say operations will continue at full pace.

Pakistan has witnessed several counter-terrorism operations in border regions over the past years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and areas near the Afghanistan border. Officials maintain that intelligence-based operations remain necessary to prevent militant attacks and ensure long-term national security.
