Bangladesh have made a significant jump in the latest ICC Test Team Rankings after an impressive 1-1 series draw against Australia. The Tigers have climbed to sixth place, moving ahead of both Sri Lanka and Pakistan and recording one of the biggest ranking improvements in their recent Test history.
The rise comes after Bangladesh produced a memorable performance during their historic two-Test tour of Australia. Despite entering the series as underdogs, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side showed remarkable discipline and confidence against the top-ranked hosts.
Bangladesh created history in the opening Test in Darwin by defeating Australia by nine wickets. It was the country’s first-ever Test victory on Australian soil and one of the most remarkable results in Bangladesh’s Test cricket history.
Australia, however, responded strongly in the second Test at Mackay. Mitchell Starc led a devastating bowling attack as Australia dismissed Bangladesh for 64 and 95 before completing an innings-and-51-run victory inside two days. The result levelled the two-match series 1-1.
The latest ICC Test rankings place Australia at the top, followed by South Africa and New Zealand. India occupy fourth position, while England are fifth. Bangladesh are now sixth, with Sri Lanka seventh and Pakistan eighth.
For Bangladesh, the ranking boost is another reward for their recent progress in Test cricket. Their earlier success against Pakistan had already demonstrated that the Tigers were becoming increasingly competitive in the longer format.
